Day 4, Shoulder surgery diary

Today is the fourth day after my shoulder surgery. I am feeling better, and able to do a little bit more. The only thing notable on this day is that my left shoulder began to hurt. I think I am overusing it because I cannot use my right arm at all. I had rotator cuff surgery on my left shoulder in July 2012, about six months ago. I am very disappointed that my left shoulder is starting to hurt, since it wasn’t that long ago that I had it repaired.

Sesame Street created a new character, “Prison Son”

Sesame Street decided to create a character named Alex. His dad is apparently in the slammer.

“Congratulations, America, on making it almost normal to have a parent in prison or jail,” wrote a columnist on Reason.com.

Maybe they’re just wanting to cover all their bases. Who knows what will be next.

The best sling for shoulder surgery

When you have shoulder surgery, you will go home with a lot of supplies. I was sent home with an immobilization sling, and an ice therapy machine (a cooler with a cord and hoses coming out of it). Sometimes the hospital will allow you to wear home your hospital gown, but this is kind of rare. I have tried five different kinds of slings and I found the slingshot 2 to be so much more comfortable than all the others. Here is their website. If you are looking for comfortable sling after shoulder surgery I highly recommend this one. It is so much better than the one that the hospital gave me.

This is Nessie, she is almost 6 months old. This little gal is 56 lbs. already, and so well behaved.

Day 3; Shoulder Surgery Diary

Day 3
Last night I got my first good night sleep Since the surgery. The trick for me was not to take a pain pill before I went to bed. This is probably the reason why I woke up so stiff and sore this morning. The first two nights I had to take pain medication; but I just can’t sleep when I take that stuff.

Today my husband helped me change the bandages. I was surprised when we removed the padding to find that there was a bunch of writing on my shoulder. This time with the laparoscopic surgery they had to punch four holes. My shoulder surgery last year (on my left shoulder) only had three holes.

Occasionally, I forget and use my right hand. This causes a sharp pain in my shoulder.

I found a picture of the shoulder immobilizer they gave me at the hospital. When I went home there were extra pieces attached to this sling. I figured out later that the extra straps came with the ice machine and not the sling.

The burnt black cookies, she did hate,
She shouted profanities at her plate.

Overcooked, black and really charred,
She threw one at a security guard.

Looking at them was hard to take,
Thinking of witches burnt at the stake.

Evil, evil cookies, Covered in ash,
Eating them may cause a rash.

They lay there cold just like grey stone,
It pained her straight down to the bone.

Remember the cookies, they are dead,
Should she bury them beneath the shed?

It seems to me that she was batty,
She mailed the cookies to Cincinnati.

A stormy wind came from the east,
Get inside, to say the least.

A thickening fog, an invisible flame,
Whipping down, the evil wind came.

People were fleeing, full of dread.
darkness appeared from up ahead.

A fighting few have bravely remained,
Hiding and quiet, self contained.

Drought & hunger, devoid of rain,
this can never be explained.

A silent candle burned in the night,
It burned with no relief in sight.

Mine will hide and continue breathing,
We would never think of leaving.

Between the earth and fiery sun,
A deserted city is not much fun.
